Week Commencing 24th March 2023:
1. Preservation & Protection of Tees - The following points have been suggested to help alleviate/prevent damage to the tees by avoiding overuse and damage during the dormancy period. These changes are only expected to be required until the weather improves allowing time for growth and recovery:
• Seniors have asked to consider using the Silver, rather than the Gold tee positions during weekdays to assist the spread of wear and better rotation of play. This has been put forward to the Seniors and will be discussed accordingly.
• Restrict any General Play rounds to Silver or Bronze tees – this will work with the new World Handicap System, as it allows for play from any of the tee positions and alters the slope accordingly.
• Tee mats to be utilised on All of the par 3’s to protect the Tees whilst the weather remains wet and growth or recovery minimal.
2. Captain versus Vice Captain on 25th March 2023 – as this is a Match Play Competition and due to the excessively wet weather over the last month some Winter Greens are expected to be in play for this match and this will be communicated following a full course inspection on Saturday Morning.
3. 12th Tee & 9th Bunker – turf will be ordered next week to finish the bunker at 9th. Both areas will be out of play until the turf has knitted and adequately established.
4. Scope for a 1st cut between fairway and rough – we asked if it was possible to have a 1st cut between the fairway and rough. The greenstaff will work with the committee to identify the best fairways for shaping and creating a 1st cut. However, this does add time and effort, so may only be done on a limited number of fairways where it makes sense to do so.
5. Complaints or correspondence – both greenstaff and committee ask that any complaints or correspondence follows the correct line of communication, as this will help to better expedite replies and can be communicated to All members and avoid any duplication of effort. No members of staff or committee should be approached or confronted with regards to a complaint. Please email or put in writing for the attention of the committee to ensure this follows correct protocol, thank you.
6. Club Volunteers – due to a limit on resources can we ask if any volunteers would like to help with filling in divots on the tees and some landing areas. This should only be required a couple of times a month and would be great to assist with recovery and general presentation. Any member wishing to volunteer to help in this matter, please contact a member of the committee, thank you.
7. GEO Certification since 2022 – all 7 FGT Courses received GEO certification in 2022, something we should all be proud of. This initiative promotes sustainability in Golf and supports a variety of projects to encourage wildlife habitat and ecology in and around the Golf Course. Therefore, you may notice areas of the course that are promoted to wet land or have areas to encourage insects, bats, and birds. As we learn more, we can identify the areas that have been targeted for these initiatives.
