Succès mitigé pour les équipes d'ESN
L'équipe Scratch jouera contre les champions en titre
Wellesley Trophy

ESN scratch team, Captained by Marcus Opoku, won their first round match away to Hill Barn GC 10-2 to meet Pyecombe GC in round 2 on May 18th.

Leading 3-1 after morning foursomes, the team won the singles 7-1 with Ethan Randall making his debut for the Club with an outstanding 5/4 win.

There were also wins for returning players Tom Foreman & Mark Budd (pictured) with Dean Plant , Joshua Hardy & Lee Drew having comfortable wins, Tom Aye-Moung producing the biggest win of the day 7/5.

The team would welcome support on Saturday 18th May for their trip to Pyecombe, so if free, why not pop up and watch some top quality golf as the Club attempts to KO the holders.

Handicap Trophy

ESN recorded a close fought 3-2 win over Singing Hills at the weekend. Ryan Wickens and Liam Willford won the top match 5 and 3 – an impressive win given that Ryan’s clubs were still in Dubai! Nick Alford and Eric Stone won the second game 3 and 2 to make it two points from the first two games. Nick was heard singing all the way to his car after having a most enjoyable afternoon. The two Gunners fans, Dean Wootten and Duncan Innes, were doing well until slipping up towards the end of their match – most un-Arsenal like. With the match evenly poised we needed one point from the final two matches. It was not looking great as Jon Parks and Paul Cullen were four down with six to play but they managed to secure a magnificent half point on the last – do remember to ask JP about the match when you see him! In the final match Lee Sexton and Homi Falak were all square playing the last. There was a bit of delay on the last green as Lee had to assure Homi that this was a non-qualifier – once hearing those magical words Homi calmly rolled in his 8 foot putt for the required half point.

Well done to all – great team spirit as the final games came up the 18th. Next round is away at Cowdray Park on 18 May.

Cyril Blake Trophy

ESN lost the match 4 1/2 - 1/2 in a tricky away tie v Worthing GC with Marcus Opoku & Alan Ratcliffe producing the Club's 1/2 point. They will now move into the Gilbert Print Plate draw.
