Mens' Captain Completes 72 Hole Longest (and Hottest) Day Challenge
As you will probably be aware I took on the 72 hole Longest Day challenge on Saturday 21st June, which also turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far, and as I sit here with my feet in a bowl of Epsom Salts solution am pleased to report that I completed it.

For those who might be interested, some statistics from the day:
- First tee time 6.00am, last putt 7.35pm
- Tees played: 1. White, 2. Yellow, 3. Blue, 4. Red
- Total distance walked: approximately 23 miles
- Total on course time taken: 10 hours and 5 minutes
- Total shots taken: 333 (I set myself a target of 350)
- Birdies: 3, Pars: 35, Bogeys: 21, Double bogey or worse: 13
- Gross eclectic score over 4 rounds: 70
- Stableford points scored: 134
- Liquids consumed: roughly 2 gallons (4 pints of orange & soda (no ice), 7 litres of water with SIS Hydro tablets)

Big thank you’s go out to:
- all of the players on the course who so generously let my groups play through quickly, and for their kind compliments and encouragement as we did so
- My playing partners for each of the four rounds; Barry Peak, Sarah Greenall, Graeme Jones and Ian Turner, and my caddies for rounds 2-4; Wayne Cook, Lawrence Hastie and Dick Douglas. I couldn’t have done it without your support and encouragement
- My long suffering family, especially my son and daughter who expressed great concern for my welfare on a day when there were nationwide health warnings in place due to the extreme temperature
- Charlie and Katie from Derby Cottage who treated a severely sprained ankle incurred just over 2 weeks before the date set for the challenge and provided such great advice on how to prepare for each of the four rounds
- Finally, the biggest thank you of all goes to the multitude of amazingly generous people who donated to Alzheimers Society via my Just Giving page in advance, giving me the strength to not back down from the Challenge in the face of injury and adverse conditions.

At the time of writing my Just Giving Page shows a total of £2,653 raised, 88% of my target of £3,000. If you have not already done so (perhaps you were waiting to see if I completed the challenge) please consider making a donation, large or small, at https://www.justgiving.com/page/james-greenall-2 to help me reach that objective.
Every pound counts and goes towards helping support people who are dealing with dementia, whether as sufferers, or carers and family members.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to seeing you at OSGS event soon.
